I have read a little bit of fan fiction before, but have not written it myself- so wanted to get a bit more understanding of what it actually is. I had a look on Britannica, and for any of you that still are confused about what you're supposed to be doing, I would reccomend just having a quick read of this. Its an interesting article about how fan fiction has developed, and the sort of things people write about in their fan fiction.

http://www.fanfiction.net/tv/Lost/

This is the sort of Fan Fiction I am looking at doing myself. Based around the TV Show Lost, however I am still trying to decide whether to set this before the current events in the show, or after. There are quite a few interesting ones here to read, I have picked out a couple that I like.

Deals with another possibility, if the character of Charlottle hadn't died.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2867278/1/An_Ocean_of_Memories

This one focusses on a character who is also now dead, and the fan fiction talks about her past (before she came to the island).

This fan fiction is based on the Tv Show Heroes, it looks into the past of why a particular character behaves a certain way, while also bringing some comedy into it.

www.lostfic.com

This is apparently the largest Fan Fic site on Lost. You are able to look at the top ten fan fiction in different catergories.. eg..

10 Largest Series, 10 Most Reviewed Series, 10 Longest Stories, 10 Most Read

community.livejournal.com/lost_fic_awards

I found another website which awards writers for their fan fiction..again this one is based around Lost, and has some really good pieces of writing. You can have a read through the ones that were awarded. Very good.

www.waynesthisandthat.com/writefanfic.htm

This website offers you tips for how to write fan fiction- it gives 184 ways to improve your writing. Good website if you are completely confused about how to start.

EG:Tip 48. DON'T USE STEREOTYPES. Stereotypes (the prostitute with a heart of gold) and antistereotypes (a football player who knits). are too predictable to be interesting characters. Another stereotype common to pulp science fiction is the bright young thing blasting into space.

Another one that offers tips.

A couple of more casual Fan Fic sites (Both based around Lost).Readers/writers can link to other work- more of a basic forum style sites.

All of the ones I have read cover a lot of things that I was thinking of doing myself. Now the task is to come up with something that no one has thought of, which is quite difficult- especially considering these people are a lot more die hard than I am about the show. I am open to any suggestions, and feedback. Will try to put up a draft over the weekend, please let me know what you guys think.
